Well I have to say I am very excited about her coming back. It'll be good to see K-9 too. I am going to be waiting on bated breath for this next season. I will be sad when Rose leaves though. Change can be hard...just ask the Doctor.

Sarah Jane is probably one of the most beloved companions from the show, and one of the easiest to fit into the new series. Elizabeth Sladen did such an excellent job with both Pertwee and Tom Baker. I know Pertwee liked Katy Manning best as Jo, but you could see there was a connection between the the Third Doctor and her too.
K9 is also underrated as a companion. His biggest problem the first time he was show was the construction of the robot, not the character itself. T. Baker not liking him also hurt the character a bit.
Out of all the duo companion/Doctor arrangements, Sarah Jane and Harry Sullivan with the Fourth Doctor is tied to first with Jamie, Zoe and the Second Doctor.

This is true. Those pairs were the most popular. ( I know Jamie had quite the following because he had the best legs in the show. ) The chemistry with all of them was great. I liked Sarah better because she was not as venerable as Jo. I did like her but Sarah was better. I don't know if you've seen the New Who but Rose is a great companion too. I guess the weaker companions were in the Davidson era.

Davidson and those after him until the '89 hiatus were cursed with having companions from previous regenerations that were weak. Tegan and Nyssa were OK, but Adric should've been gone before T. Baker regenerated. I like Bonnie Langford as Mel, esp. Big Finish, but she was cursed with bad scripts and told how to act in the series, making her unpopular. Tegan would've been better with C. Baker's Doctor (see "Jim'll Fix It" on "The Two Doctors" DVD) than Peri. Peri was much better with Davidson. I would love to listen to the new Big Finish they're doing with Doc 5 and Tegan (only one too given Fielding's staying more disassociated with it).

Well a lot of what happened was John Nathan turner. When he came on board things just went down. but I'm glad Russell T Davies (RTD) has modernized it and is keeping the essence of Doctor Who. And let me tell you the Special effects...Well they ain't what they used to be. They are awsome. The show deserves it.
